This paper presents a novel design concept of low-cost permanent monitoring system for rail-track problems. The introduced is theoretically overcome the currant in-use designs in terms providing accurate observations detecting irregularities all railway network during service time using integrated sensors. investigates common by identifying issues, presenting challenges, and highlighting limitations currently techniques. Then, potential cost-effective sensors intelligent techniques geometric parameters rail studied. includes GPS, MEMS-INS & high frequency single-point multi-spot laser distance surface cracks, fractures, cross-level, wrap, gauge vertical horizontal alignments. Different levels GPS/MEMS-INS integration are covered, illustrating advantages each solution optimal utilization system. Vision-based HD non-metric digital cameras also investigated, showing specifications required fulfill requirements.
